Which providers we not can recommend (our opinion)
Of course there are many other WordPress hosting providers out there. Here we want to briefly discuss which ones we not recommend and why, in our opinion
Poor experiences we have had, for example, with WP Engine, GoDaddy, SiteGround, Bluehost, GetFlywheel. In our opinion, these providers overprice their services, often fail to deliver on their promises (e.g., "optimized WordPress hosting"), support is often very slow or completely inadequate, and prices are simply too high for what is actually delivered. We therefore advise against using these providers.
Apart from that, these providers are not located in the EU but in a third country, which can become problematic in the context of GDPR & TTDSG.
German web hosters which we unfortunately also not can recommend:
– Do not recommend Ionos Web Hosting (formerly known as "11 Internet") & Strato Web Hosting. The corporation, which originally started as a telecommunications provider, simply added web hosting and server technology years ago to continue growing. As a large corporation nowadays, providers like Strato and others are simply bought up. Since April 2017, Strato AG, like 1 & 1 Ionos, has belonged to the parent company United Internet AG. You can speak of MASS processing here, especially in the normal package range at both providers. Support is often untrained, has really no idea and cannot help. The limits in web hosting and even in server packages are incredibly low. We no longer support ANY customers with these hosting packages / hosting plans because the backend and frontend are simply far too slow.
Why so many still host there: TV advertising and marketing in the millions reach the masses. Too bad, because with the resources a much better service could be created.
– domainFactory: We have been hosting many of our customers' websites here for years and were mostly satisfied. However, in recent years there have been increasingly more problems with PHP memory limits, maximum input variables and script execution times. For this reason, we are gradually migrating all WordPress sites to other hosts.
– Host Europe: We had a root server here for about two years and were generally satisfied. The price-to-performance ratio is reasonable, but the support could be better. We had to wait up to 24 hours for an email response several times. In addition, it is very annoying that domain settings take up to 15 minutes.
– Hetzner: We have hosted several servers for our agency clients here over the years and were very satisfied with the machines. The prices are more than fair, but support could also be better here. In our experience, it often took 12-24 hours before we received an email response. Unfortunately, the performance is also commensurate with the price, which is not suitable for larger sites OR then becomes more attractive price-wise compared to other WordPress hosts.
All hosting providers and third-party providers are absolutely reputable and have good offers, but if you need fast support and best performance, you should choose a different web hosting provider.
