Ugly and without added value are the .00 at the end of round prices. Especially for sales psychological reasons (neuromarketing), prices with .00 decimal places should not be displayed in the WooCommerce shop, or should be displayed without the decimal places.
Simply hide .00 decimal places in the WooCommerce shop
Under „General“ in the WooCommerce settings, there is a section called Currency Options (at the very bottom). Here you can set the business currency and how the currency symbol should be positioned. You can also specify how many decimal places prices should be displayed with.
At first glance, this setting seems to be just a display option. A setting that makes your prices look a little nicer. However, setting the decimal places to 0 can lead to real problems for you and your business! Because two decimal places are standard and mandatory.
Simply remove .00 from prices (decimal places) everywhere in WooCommerce
Fortunately, there are ways to avoid displaying decimal places as long as they are whole number prices. Set the decimal places in the currency settings to 2 and insert this code snippet into your theme’s functions.php or a separate plugin.
add_filter( 'woocommerce_price_trim_zeros', '__return_true' );
Simply insert this code into the functions.php of the (child) template and you’re done! Alternatively, install the Code Snippets plugin and insert the code there.
With this code, 49.00 will be displayed as 49. If you only have whole number prices in your shop and display prices including VAT, all products as well as shipping costs, VAT, etc. will be displayed with two decimal places, and for whole numbers, without the annoying .00.
Decimal places in WooCommerce
If you set the number of decimal places to 0, WooCommerce rounds product prices. Or more precisely, the ratio between net price and VAT. If you use an external payment provider that sends each order line individually to the payment provider, or has a branch that connects to your accounting / ERP system, the calculation of the order total may differ between the systems.
Therefore, we must leave 2 decimal places in the WooCommerce shop settings, but we can influence with a small function that these decimal places are removed when they are .00.
Why is this even bad?
99.00 Euros look like more than 99, and our brain and our shipping interpret numbers with . or , as always larger, even though they are not.
This has no impact on the calculation of prices and VAT in your shop, but due to psychology, without the need to display unnecessary decimal places, it can lead to more sales through more conversions.
