By now, one in five Google search queries has a regional reference. In cooperation with Google Maps, Google responded to this some time ago and launched the Google My Business platform or interface. The importance of this platform for Google is clear, as entries from this Google My Business platform are displayed before the normal Google search results.
This article explains the functionality and influence of Google reviews.
Google Reviews: Impact, Influence & Deletion
How much influence do Google My Business reviews have?
The influence of Google reviews can be assessed from various perspectives. In addition to the user’s perspective and the first impression, the influence of the review texts and the number of stars also plays a major role. Additionally, the Google ranking is also affected.
After a search query, if available, three Google My Business entries are displayed. If one of these entries has orange stars, it already attracts more attention. This is because the stars mean that Google reviews have already been made.
Existing negative Google reviews are sometimes part of it. An eKomi study shows that a product with 4.5 stars sells three times better than a product with 5 stars. By questioning reviews and knowing that there are also fake reviews, existing negative Google reviews also create a little more trust.
What impact do Google reviews have on ranking?
For local search engine optimization, Google reviews have a significant influence – at least on the local ranking of a Google My Business entry. Customers particularly value current entries that are continuously rated positively. Google also prefers entries that have received many positive reviews.
According to statistics from the news portal MOZ.de, Google reviews account for 8.4 percent of Google’s ranking. Google My Business with its categories and keywords has a factor of 14.7 percent.
How do I get Google reviews?
In principle, it is relatively easy to get Google reviews.
- 100 or 200 reviews are not needed. 20 to 30 authentic and appealing reviews are appropriate for a Google My Business entry.
- Responding to positive and negative reviews not only builds trust with new customers. It demonstrates a professional and open approach to criticism.
- Negative reviews are also part of it. Products that only have positive reviews do not always appear trustworthy to customers. Entries with a few negative Google reviews are given more trust.
Tips for getting Google reviews:
- Reviews from family members and friends
At the start, reviews from three to four people from your circle of friends or family can be helpful. - Directly address satisfied customers
Business cards with a direct review link allow customers to quickly and easily submit a Google review.
- Place review link on business card
Customers can directly access the review form via a review link on the website. - Create an incentive with a competition or product test
Nothing is free. With the help of a small competition, product, or a small service, customers are more likely to be persuaded to leave a review.

It is possible to delete your own Google review. Unfavorable or negative reviews from other people can only be removed to a limited extent. Untrue reviews can be reported to Google. Also, if reviews contain insults and thus violate Google’s guidelines, they can be deleted.
